BMAV celebrated its 30th anniversary as an organization at the Fall Retreat held at Mount Ararat Baptist Church in Stafford, VA from September 29-30, 2017. Attendees were treated to a 75-minute trolley ride of historic downtown Fredericksburg, VA on Friday and returned to a semi-formal banquet dinner. At our banquet dinner, Andrew Segre, Courthouse Campus Pastor at Mount Ararat, spoke and gave a message of “Work as Worship.” On Saturday morning, Bryan Jones, Associate Executive Director at NorthStar Church Network, delivered a message of encouragement to ministry assistants.
Attendees were encouraged to bring paper goods and feminine products to support S.E.R.V.E. BMAV came through, as usual, and provided 265 pounds of these items to S.E.R.V.E.
Fall Overnight Retreat Report:
We were blessed to spend time with 24 Ministry Assistants from around Virginia at Eagle Eyrie in Lynchburg, VA over September 22-23, 2016. Our theme of “Imagine…Me” was based on John 4:29b “Come see a man who knew all about the things I did, who knows me inside and out.” (The Message)
Our program included the following workshops:
“Father Knows All” (Psalm 139:1-4) by Rev. Rod Miller, Director of Eagle Eyrie Conference Center;
“Teaming Up…Ministry Assistant and Supervisor Working Together to Form the Most Effective Ministry” by Dr. Susan McBride, BGAV Team Coordinator for Congregational Field Staff;
““Creative & Intentional Communication in a Frenetic World” by Rev. Nathan White, BGAV Chief Marketing;
“A Boggled Mind” (Ephesians 3:20-21) by Rev. Kevin Moen, Concord Baptist Church in Ruther Glen, VA; and
“Organization Skills – Transitioning From the Workplace to Using the Same Skills in A Faith-Based Organization” by Mrs. Danette Moen, River City Faith Network
Attendees donated much needed supplies and cleaning items for Eagle Eyrie and brought teddy bears, which were donated to the Boonesboro Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company.
What a great couple of days to get away and spend time fellowshipping, networking, and developing friendships!
Spring One-Day Retreat Report:
18 Ministry Assistants from around the state of Virginia gathered at Chancellor Baptist Church in Fredericksburg for our one-day retreat on April 29, 2016! Our special guests were Rev. Stephen Artis, Youth & Young Adults Pastor/Director of Youth and Young Adults of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church of Herndon, VA, and Rev. Eric Goforth, Pastor of Chancellor Baptist Church. Rev. Artis spoke on “Grief Defined”, and Rev. Goforth spoke on “When Grief Enters the Church (our response)”. The Hymn of Joy(often called Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee) was our theme song. The lunch was catered by Butternut & Blue Bistro & Bakery of Spotsylvania, VA. The attendees visited the local Fire Rescue #10 on Gordon Road to deliver cookies and have a Prayer Circle with the firefighters present. This was a wonderful time of networking, developing friendships, learning, and ministering — as all our conference/retreats are meant to be!
